Bonnie Curtis is a multi-faceted artist, driven by an inquisitive imagination and a desire to discover. Born and bred in Sydney, Bonnie trained at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts before moving to Europe to further her artistic development. During her career, Bonnie has worked as an independent artist, playing the role of producer, director, choreographer and performer in works for film, installation and live performance. Bonnie is the founder and Artistic Director of Sydney based dance company BCP.
Her creations and collaborations have been featured at ImPulsTanz, Museum Moderner Kunst (AT), Girona Film Festival (ES), Quadstock Music Festival (US), CinéWomen|Womenartconnect (EU), Asia International Youth Short Film Exhibition (CN), Lift Off (UK), Biennale of Sydney, Sydney World Film Festival, and Sydney Fringe Festival (AU), among others.
As an artist, Bonnie’s fascination with the darker themes of life is prevalent in her work. She is inspired by elements of our human existence that are often thought of as taboo in society. Bonnie’s works share with her audience the diverse emotions, experiences and thoughts that have formed our modern society.
As a teacher, Bonnie believes everyone should be able to experience the joy of dance, regardless of age and ability. She has worked as a dance teacher and choreographer for 10 years, teaching ballet, contemporary, musical theatre, jazz and tap to students of all ages and skill levels, including students with disabilities. Bonnie's qualifications include Bachelor of Dance Performance (Classical Ballet), Diploma of Fitness, Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Coach, and she is a certified teacher of Progressing Ballet Technique by Marie Walton-Mahon.
Bonnie has taught technique and performance for AMPA's bachelor degree program and is the facilitator of Interchange Australia's dance program. She also runs open dance classes for adults in the Southern Highlands.
